KNOWLEDGE & TRAINING
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) has recognised
the value of Driver Hire’s module on vulnerable road-users as
part of FORS Professional training. The module teaches drivers
about the law in relation to the safety of vulnerable road-users,
as well as information about the dangers of speeding.
Driver Hire’s Risk Management Division provides a number of
eLearning modules to support drivers, and the vulnerable road-
users module was found to be particularly relevant for FORS
members. The online course provides the flexibility for drivers to
learn or refresh essential skills at any suitable, convenient time
without the need to book a training day.
An emphasis on training has always been an important aspect of
the FORS Standard, in keeping with its focus on safer, more efficient
and environmentally protective operations. Through its recently
launched FORS Professional brand, FORS provides numerous
funded opportunities for fleets to upskill both drivers and transport
managers, including toolbox talks, toolkits and eLearning, as well as
classroom-based sessions.
Paul Wilkes, FORS Business Services Manager, explains: “FORS has
always had a strong focus on training, as we believe that this is
critical to the ongoing success of afleet. Aswell as providing our own
training, we are delighted when companies like Driver Hire provide
courses to our members, helping them improve the capabilities
of their drivers and ultimately reduce the risk to vulnerable road-
users.”
John Keelan-Edwards, Driver Hire’s Risk Management and Group
Technology Services Director, stresses the benefits: “eLearning
is increasing in popularity as a training method to encourage
continual professional development. Because drivers can complete
the training anytime, anywhere, it means it can be undertaken at
times that are both convenient and cost-effective – without the
need to arrange special training days.”
