COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SHOW2017 REVIEW
Total showcased its range of products including Rubia engine
oils, coolants, AdBlue and more, along with its range of added-
value services such as ANAC and Visio Stock. In addition,
the company promoted Total Truck Solutions (TTS), the free
transportation portal customised to support individual fleet
needs.
TTS is a platform dedicated to road hauliers, fleet managers,
maintenance managers, owners and drivers, enabling savings
on fuels, tolls, taxes and more. It keeps you informed with the last
industry updates and connects with your peers on a personalised
community forum. You can even post, and apply for, vacancies
directly on the portal.
On a busy stand throughout the Show, the Lubricants team were
on hand to help fleet operators see how Total could assist with their
businesses and increase their profitability.
Chris Wall, Marketing Manager of Total UK, emphasised the point:
“To our fleet customers we’re not simply a supplier of lubricants,
but a company of ideas. We think ahead and can fulfill a business’s
changing needs, enabling fleet managers to improve margins and
streamline their fleet operations.”
In an increasingly competitive climate, keeping fleets on the
road and earning for businesses is a clear priority. Commercial
vehicles are exposed to the most extreme driving conditions, and
they also operate in a business environment that demands the
lowest possible operating
cost.
Accordingly
Total
provides a complete fleet
management
solution
to take the headaches
away from the managers
themselves.
One of the ways Total
achieves this is in its
added-value services such
as Total ANAC. This has made a substantial difference for many
customers who have used the system. Customers benefit from
Total’smore than30years of experienceand4,000,000diagnostics.
They not only save up to £10 for every £1 spent on oil analysis, but
more importantly reduce their fleet operating and maintenance
costs, and improve fleet reliability and efficiency.

Further to the stand preview on Page 73 of our last Issue, Giti
Tire launched six new Giti branded patterns at the Show. They
were the GDR655 combi-road drive in 22.5in, the GTL919 long-
haul trailer in 17.5in, 19.5in and 22.5in, the GDR638 regional
drive in 17.5in and 19.5in, the GT867 all-position urban in
22.5in and the GAM837 all-position and GAM851 trailer mixed
service patterns in 22.5in.
All of the tyres, which were either three-peak mountain snowflake
(3PMSF) certified or M&S marked, were selected to support the
company’s growing OEM presence across Europe – or to target
specific aftermarket sectors where growth potential has been
identified. Last year it was announced that the Giti name would
replace GT Radial in the truck and bus segment, to create a single
global platform and streamline product development.
Alongside the new product lines visitors saw conversions of
existing popular patterns from GT Radial, many of which have
been improved through increased load index, label results or
3PMSF accreditation. Also on display was the company’s recently
rebranded retread programme, titled Giti Genesis.

As we highlighted on Page 79 of our March / April 2017 Issue,
Merridale introduced its MX series of ATEX-certified diesel
pumps with their associated fuel management. On display
were the new MX-I integral pump and fuel management unit
and a standalone MX–P diesel pump.
Visually the new range features completely redesigned enclosures,
fabricated in heavy-gauge stainless steel for optimum rigidity and
longevity. “A priority for the new design was to retain the Merridale
brand ethos for being rugged and tough,” underlines the company’s
Sales Director Stephen Hannan.
Being rolled out over the next few months, the MX series will
soon include new versions of all existing pumps, tank and fuel
management systems. Merridale is also planning the introduction
of a range of AdBlue pumps and dispensers.
So the new enclosures are smaller, enabling greater flexibility in
the layout of multi-product fuelling points. The design concept is
based on the use of a common frame, thereby reducing the need
for model variants. Compact specials are no longer necessary, and
future requirements for a twin-pump installation can bemet by the
simple reorientation of two single MX units.
Under the covers Merridale retains the emphasis on quality
components, to ensure uncompromised reliability. A number of
advances have been made in the electronics of the system. Those
include an upgrade to the pump display board to allow electronic
calibration and an external totaliser.
The display now toggles between the current transaction and the
amount of fuel drawn since the pump was originally installed.
This initiative also paves the way for additional development of the
fuel management system. Merridale is exploring the use of serial
as well as pulsed communication feeds. Now common on retail
forecourts, a serial link is a simplified solution, which can reduce
costs and further enhance the overall resilience of the system.
All Merridale depot fuelling equipment is compliant with the latest
DSEAR regulations, and the new developments will allow seamless
integration with existing Merridale installations.
Equally Merridale is continuing to develop FuelWorks. That is a
comprehensive, web-based, fuel management reports service
which has been implemented across a broad customer base
covering commercial road transport, local authorities and
emergency services.
