For the heavy-haul professionals of the Allelys Group in Studley,

Warks, Goldhofer’s Faktor 5 has become an indispensable

module of their fleet. For ultra-heavy cargoes, which often have

to be carried over challenging routes, this multi-functional

high-girder bridge, which offers the flexibility to be converted

into a vessel bridge as required, is a real all-rounder.

Recently the UK company used their “lightweight” version – it

weighs a mere 100 tons – for two impressive operations.

The first job involved transporting a 212t transformer from

Stafford to Ellesmere Port for shipment across the Irish Sea. For the

configuration of the heavy-duty modules, the Allelys team picked

a Goldhofer 2x12-axle THP/ST heavy-duty combination with

the Faktor 5 solution.

The girder frame was used in its vessel bridge mode, so as to gain

the decisive extra centimetres of clearance for passage under

bridges of limited height on a route of more than 100 km. Where

necessary, the hydraulics of the Faktor 5 permit it to be lowered

(or raised) by up to 900 mm as soon as a critical spot is reached.

Those capabilities proved their usefulness not only on the trouble-

free road journey, but also during the transshipment process at

Ellesmere Port.

For the second journey, over a distance of some 60 km fromBrunton

Shaw UK in Worksop, Notts, to Goole, East Yorkshire, the Goldhofer

high-girder bridge was loaded with a cable drumweighing 300t.

This is no problemat all for Faktor 5, which is designed for payloads

of up to 550t. Since the job also comprised transshipment at the

Port, Faktor 5 again provided invaluable support for efficient

working, with its combination of wide-ranging functionality and

user-friendliness.

Renato Ramella, Director of Sales – Europe and North Africa at

Goldhofer, was pleased to see such perfect examples of effective

cooperation involving Allelys’ know-how and Goldhofer’s transport

solutions: “For years Allelys have been an extremely important

customer of ours in the UK. We are delighted that our Faktor 5 has

given them a real competitive advantage in terms of additional

flexibility with ultra-heavy cargoes.

“Equally we benefit from the regular feedback we receive from

Allelys. That helps us make continual progress in our commitment

to product optimisation to meet our partners’ needs.”

In further interesting news, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the company HRH

Prince Charles was welcomed to Gray & Adams at Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, on

June 13th, to enjoy a tour of the factory, the first Royal visit in the long history of the

business. He joined the celebrations with Gray & Adams Directors and staff, past and

present, and unveiled a plaque commemorating the visit with James Ingleby, Lord

Lieutenant of the county.

the rear of the Euroliner trailers, in line with Perennial Freight’s requirements.

The operator provides a wide range of transport services, from full- and part-loads

through to shipping containers and hazardous cargo. Perennial Freight’s Commercial

Director Chris Smyth explained: “Because of the continued growth of our European

business, we decided to order 50 of the newmulti-locking-point Euroliners from SDC.

More and more of our clients are exporting into Europe, and they need multi-locking

pillars, so the new Euroliner trailers will now give us a competitive advantage in

the marketplace.” Enda Cushnahan, COO of SDC Trailers, emphasised: “We have

developed an excellent relationship with Perennial Freight, having supplied them

with a wide range of curtainsiders, Euroliners, skeletal and platform trailers over the
