TYRES

HGV operators across the UK running Logistik LD01 drive-axle

tyres for regional and long-haul duties are reporting superior

performance levels and, as such, demand is outstripping

supply. Consequently Vacu-Lug has installed a fourth Logistik

tyre press at its Grantham, Lincs, plant.

Any operator wanting improved fuel efficiency from a retreaded

tyre looks closely at rolling resistance, and that’s exactly what

commercial tyre retreading specialist Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres did

when developing its successful Logistik platform.

Unlike some manufacturers, however, Vacu-Lug chose not to

sacrifice any physical tyre characteristics, but instead achieved

improved performance through technological advancements and

the use of more sophisticated compounds

during the manufacturing process.

Dave Alsop, Vacu-Lug Sales Director,

explains: “One way to reduce rolling

resistance is to reduce both tyre width

– crucial for footprint – and tread depth.

At

Vacu-Lug

we’re

using

advanced

compounds developed over a long period

of time to combine good rolling resistance

with excellent wear characteristics –

simply put, the tyres last longer.”

Vacu-Lug uses the Logistik LD01 drive

tyre (in size 295/80R22.5) on its

own distribution fleet, with the tyres

outperforming original equipment by

up to 50%. The LD01 combines optimal

performance and longevity with the aim of

reducing overall operating costs.

Dave Alsop again: “In short, our own tractor

units are doing fantastic mileage because

of this tyre. Vacu-Lug also has trials running

on the same tyre in 315/70R22.5 size, with

results proving to be exceptional too.”

As well as higher mileage and improved

durability, a reduction in tread block

movement helps the Logistik LD01 deliver better traction and

lower acoustic levels, alongside improved fuel consumption. The

tyre is now available in three sizes – 295/80R22.5, 315/70R22.5

and 315/80R22.5. Furthermore, by utilising an increased curing

pressure of 300psi, maximum tread compound performance is

achieved.

On top of that, hauliers can now combine the LD01 Logistik drive

tyre with the newly released LT01 Logistik supersingle trailer tyre.

This means operators can benefit from matching premium quality

retread tyres from a British manufacturer – refreshing, that!

Giti Tire has announced the Giti GT867, an urban tyre with

reinforced sidewalls for refuse collection fleets, multi-drop

deliveries and city buses. Specially designed for stop-and-start

operating conditions with frequent changes in speed as well as

direction, it is available in 11R22.5, 295/80R22.5, 305/70R22.5

and 315/80R22.5. All four sizes are M+S marked to indicate all-

season traction and braking properties. Load capacity ranges

from148/145 to 158/150.

Reinforced sidewalls protect the tyre from curbing damage and

abrasion, whilst a wear indicator shows the correct time to rotate

or remove from service. In addition, a very wide tread pattern with

deep grooves provides excellent mileage and the advanced tread

block and siping reduce noise and improve comfort.

The Giti GT867 is one of six brand new tyres to be introduced into

the European truck and bus range.

Tony McHugh, TBR Sales and Marketing Director UK at Giti Tire,

tells us more about the new tyre: “The GT867 has two ultimate

objectives. It will, firstly, meet a big demand from around the UK for

an urban tyre in four specific sizes where sidewall protection is vital

and, secondly, meet the OE replacement requirements of Far East

vehicle manufacturers and operators.

“As with any new tyre we introduce into the Giti stable, it has

been fully certified for the EU – and tested extensively with UK

and European operators – to ensure that it meets the operational

requirements of bus and refuse collection fleets.”
