MULTIMODAL 2019
This year’s Multimodal exhibitionwill be
held at the Birmingham NEC from 18-
20th June. Over 300 exhibitors will be
showcasing products, technologies and
innovations that have been developed to
support transport and logistics activities
throughout the UK and Ireland. As the
12th staging of the event, Multimodal
2019 is expected to attract in excess of
9000 visitors across the three days of the
show.
Multimodal 2019 will build on previous
successes to ensure that every mode of
transport is highlighted including road,
rail, sea and air. Apart from exhibitor
stands, the show will feature a host of
networking opportunities and a daily
education programme covering all aspects
of the entire supply chain. In fact, this
complementary blend of activities has
been designed to provide opportunities
for all stakeholders to meet, gain industry
insights and grow their professional networks and businesses.
The exhibitionwill also include a Shippers Village as a vibrant forum
for freight buyers and logistics suppliers tomeet on a bilateral basis
to discuss business opportunities in dedicated meeting rooms.
Multimodal 2019’s education programme will feature seminars
and workshops spearheaded by industry insiders and thought
leaders bringing their experience and expertise to create discussion
and debate on the most pertinent issues affecting the industry
today.
Keynote speakers include John Manners-Bell, Chief Executive
Officer of Transport Intelligence and Jeremy Nixon of Ocean
Network Express (ONE) who will be sharing his outlook for the
shipping industry.
A host of exhibitors from leading national and international
logistics service providers will participate at Multimodal 2019,
with the confirmed list including ONE, Cosco Shipping Lines (UK)
Ltd, Associated British Ports, Samskip, Jigsaw Transport, CMA CGM
Group and Agility.
Dayoneoftheprogrammefocusesondisruption,andJohnManners-
Bell, CEO of Transport Intelligence, will kick off the discussion with
his views on why logistics is vulnerable to disruption.
In the afternoon, Peter Ward, Chief Executive Officer of UKWA will
be speaking and leading a surgery examining opportunities for
success in the new digital world as the closing session.
Day two of the event will feature a workshop on adapting
to a changing industry with Sue Terpilowski of the Women’s
International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA), and
associationchairs fromTheBritish International Freight Association
(BIFA), Cargo iQ, and the Cool Chain Association (CCA).
The show’s thirddaywill focus on recruiting, retainingandengaging
new talent in the industry. Speakers from BIFA, The Chartered
Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and Career Ready will
share the discussion floor with speakers from the next generation
of transport professionals.
The latest transport tech will also be the subject of debate during
the education programme, with seminars on Blockchain and
digitalisation in the industry.
Multimodal also provides the space for UK associations to come
together and build connections between their members.
The United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA), which is
celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, will be hosting a pavilion
at Multimodal 2019, givingmember organisations the opportunity
to exhibit. UKWA will also be participating with other transport
associations in Multimodal 2019’s seminar and workshop line-up.
UKWA’s Peter Ward will be chairing a panel with the Freight
Transport Association (FTA) Rail Freight Group and the Road
Haulage Association to discuss the challenges and opportunities of
cross-industry cooperation.
BIFA will be hosting a dedicated surgery where Robert Keen,
Director General of the organisation will be available to answer
questions and discuss the industry’s most pressing topics. Also,
James Hookham, Deputy Chief Executive, FTA will be on hand to
answer questions frommembers in a surgery on day two.
A popular highlight of the event are the Multimodal Awards, which
are presented to winners at a gala dinner and awards ceremony
which, this year, will hosted by snooker legend Steve Davis.
The awards recognise exceptional business and individual
contributions to the logistics industry in categories that span all the
sectors, including Shipper of the Year, Young Logistics Professional
of the Year, and Multimodal Personality of the Year Award.
Nominations for the services awards, which include Air Cargo
Operator of the Year and 3PL of the Year, are voted for by the
thousands of readers of the Multimodal newsletter, exhibitors at
Multimodal 2019, and FTA members.
The awards ceremony and dinner will be held on the evening of the
first day of Multimodal 2019.
