The Abbey Logistics Group, a leading

European

bulk

tank

operator

headquartered at Bootle, Liverpool,

was founded in 1973 at Birkenhead. In

addition to its core food-grade products,

the Group provides transport and

logistics services to other sectors such

as non-hazardous chemicals, animal

feed, minerals, cement and aggregates.

It

offers

warehousing,

European

distribution and intermodal logistics

through its fleet of ISO tank containers,

and also palletised distribution.

Both Abbey Logistics and DKV Euro Service are focussed on

providing sustainable operations. DKV’s well-known card is a fuel

and service card for commercial drivers which also enables you to

settle toll charges throughout Europe.

So the two companies have been working together since March

2010. Each follows a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy,

with the goal of reducing vehicle emissions, improving fuel

efficiency and reducing the number of vehicles on the road.

In 2016 the satellite-based toll systemwas introduced in Belgium,

and Abbey Logistics needed to be well prepared for this change. It

has a fleet of more than 300 vehicles and, following a wide-ranging

review and evaluation of its options, the company decided to utilise

the services of DKV.

Gertjan Breij, Managing Director of DKV Euro Service Benelux,

explains the background: “More and more of our customers are

looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact of their

activities and focus on reducing CO2 emissions. DKV Euro Service

was one of the first service providers with a solution for this, in

the shape of our DKV Card Climate, our climate-neutral fuelcard,

enabling complete fleets to take to the road fully CO2-neutral.

“But Corporate Social Responsibility is not only about CO2

emissions. It also involves taking responsibility for people and our

planet.” Accordingly DKV and its customers like Abbey Logistics

are supporting projects such as a UNICEF one to supply food and

vitamins to malnourished infants in Mozambique, South-East

Africa.
