For many years the Groeneveld Group, headquartered at Gorinchem, Netherlands, has provided systems across five Continents for the maintenance of trucks, trailers, RCVs, tippers, dockside handling equipment and mobile plant that automatically control oil levels and lubricate the various greasing points. These systems manage the condition of fleets and plant in a simple and environmentally friendly way.
Now the new Fluidmaster® system is a major innovation from Groeneveld, to monitor up to eight different fluid levels on these vehicles from one central display.
Developed principally in the UK, where Groeneveld has been operating for 25 years, Fluidmaster® is in essence a control unit which will typically be mounted in the engine bay. The unit is fitted with bi-colour LEDs, red and green, attached either to existing OEM sensor systems or to Groeneveld-supplied non-invasive sensors.
These can measure up to eight different fluids on a vehicle, including brake fluid, AdBlue, refrigerant, hydraulic fluid for the fans, screen wash, and of course oil. If the level is within set limits, Fluidmaster® displays a green light. If it is outside those limits, or if there is a system fault, the red light will glow instead.
What this means is that, when vehicles come in to be checked, all the maintenance crew have to do is to open a panel and glance at the display.
lf the lights are all green, then the fluid levels are acceptable and no additional work is required. A red light on the display indicates which specific fluid levels need to be checked, and the technician can then go straight to that reservoir and check the system to see if there is any reason why the level might be low.
Once that system has been topped up to the optimum level, the Fluidmaster® indicator light automatically resets to green, and the technician can get on with other standard tests and checks, confident that all the fluid levels are correct.
As is the case with every technology from Groeneveld, Fluidmaster® is designed to save time and improve efficiency, allowing maintenance teams to get on with higher level tasks.
The system enables technicians to be able to tell at a single glance whether any of the fluid levels on a vehicle requires attention, rather than spending a lot of time going through individual checks on each of them: for a big fleet coming into a busy depot at the end of the day, that will represent a significant saving in time and manpower.
Richard Hamper, Sales Manager of Groeneveld UK at Shepshed, Leics, comments: “Many of the people I have spoken to in the UK about Fluidmaster® are already very excited by the idea, and what it potentially represents for them. I am in discussion with many possible clients who are interested in having this capability built into their vehicles as standard.
“Moreover Fluidmaster® is designed to be easily retrofitted too, so that we are also talking to existing customers for our automated oil level control systems about how Fluidmaster® can further cut their costs and save their time on the same vehicles.”
