Amberon is a well-known traffic management company offering complete solutions and specialising in temporary traffic lights. It runs a fleet of 380 vehicles which operate nationwide, and almost 90% of them are now fitted with Quartix tracking systems. Amberon chose Quartix in 2013 to supply and support them with vehicle tracking and has actively engaged with all the developments to the system. In 2016 this Quartix user reported a remarkable 50% reduction in its insurance costs.
One of the features that Transport Manager Jay Lanchbury finds particularly beneficial is Driver ID. Quartix Driver ID is a convenient way for customers with fleet vehicles that are not permanently assigned to a single employee to keep track of individual driver profiles.
A simple tag reader is fitted in the dashboard at the time of unit installation, and each driver is given his or her own magnetic key fob, which, when placed on the reader, registers the driver in that vehicle, and records all trip-specific data to him or her. The Driver ID system can also remind the driver if they have forgotten to attach the key fob by emitting a buzzing sound until the key is placed on the reader. Jay Lanchbury comments: “We have found the Driver ID aspect has improved the quality of our workforce’s driving and decreased customer and public complaints.”
Using the Quartix system extensively and implementing training programmes have seen Amberon’s insurance premiums slashed by 50%, a saving that helps secure the future of the business by promoting investment and growth. Amberon has made vehicle tracking and Driver ID an integral part of its day-to-day operations by using a combination of techniques to train employees and establish a positive environment surrounding their use.
The concept is introduced at induction and through Driver Handbooks, and then further explained and reinforced through Toolbox Talks, monthly driving performance reviews, newsletters and Driver-of-the-Month Awards. Jay Lanchbury again: “The significant savings should encourage other companies to consider tracking. When managed appropriately, it is viewed positively by insurance companies as a risk management tool.”
In addition to finding Driver ID beneficial to its everyday operations, Amberon has employed realtime tracking to increase the efficiency of its “out of hours” call service, guaranteeing that it will able to identify the nearest vehicle to the location of the call at any hour of the day or night. In fact, the straightforwardness of the Quartix system was another attraction. The online systems are described by Amberon as “very easy to use, with very comprehensive content.”
Last but not least, when support is needed to ensure its continued excellence in customer service, Amberon has been able to rely on Quartix. “As well as the installation team being very efficient, the support team are excellent,” Jay Lanchbury confirms in conclusion.
