It’s Showtime!

It’s Showtime!

Richard Shreeve, Labeline’s Compliance Manager,
and the Labeline team look forward to meeting our customers
and industry colleagues at upcoming events

Springtime brings more daylight hours, warmer temperatures, and rejuvenation. For us at Labeline it is when the exhibition and events season is upon us.

Labeline was founded over 30 years ago and since then the company’s MD, Keith Kingham, has used industry events and seminars to successfully promote Labeline International around the world. We still find that attending events as an exhibitor is one of the most effective ways of meeting some of Labeline’s thousands of customers, and introducing our solutions to new contacts. In 2023, there seems to be more opportunities than ever for dangerous goods (DG) compliance to be showcased to industry.

The first of these was the 13th AGM and Industry Seminar hosted by the British Association of Dangerous Goods Professionals (BADGP) at the beginning of March. Despite the wintery conditions making travelling quite a challenge for many, the forum was very well attended. Labeline was involved with BADGP from the very start, and has remained a very strong supporter of the association ever since.

After the formal AGM, members and delegates were treated to some excellent and interesting presentations in a high-quality agenda which included a lot of discussion on alternative fuels - of course, lithium batteries and the risks that they pose were at the forefront.

The use of hydrogen fuel was championed as a safer and more environmentally friendly option when compared to those that are more commonly used. Many of the long-held myths relating to the safety, cost and environmental impact of using hydrogen were debunked by chemists and industry professionals during various presentations throughout the day.

For many years, Labeline has been a Platinum Sponsor of COSTHA (Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles) and we always attend their Annual Forum in the USA. Of course, Covid has put this on hold for a couple of years, but we are delighted to be back in person at the beginning of May. Many of our international customers attend this event and we look forward to meeting up with them again.

The following week sees us heading to NEC in Birmingham for ChemUK 2023. Covering all aspects of the chemical industry, this two-day expo has a designated zone for those involved in the Supply Chain sector and Labeline is delighted to be returning as an exhibitor again this year.

Next up will be Multimodal, the UK’s leading transport and logistics event from 13-15th June. Truck and Track always has a significant presence at Multimodal and Labeline will be just a few yards away, in the BIFA village.

And we’ll be back up to Birmingham just a few days later for the VCA Dangerous Goods Seminar. The event has moved from Daventry to NEC this year and has been trimmed down to one day to be more focussed. This is the annual opportunity for DG professionals to hear directly from the UK’s regulators, meet with Government representatives, and network with their peers and exhibitors from across the industry.

At all these events, we show the full extent of the services that Labeline provides, including the current DG regulations for all modes of transport. We hear of many companies that rely on old copies of the manuals for compliance. Reliance on
out-of-date regulations can be costly if updates to the regulations have not implemented by consignors or forwarders – shipments can get snagged and fines can be imposed.

Are you up to date?

For Road (ADR) and Rail (RID), there is a six-month transition period until 30th June, after which the 2023 regulations become mandatory. As manuals, ADR 2023 is available in both regular and spiral bound versions and the RID hardback book comes with a digital download.

Labeline is the world’s largest reseller of these publications, and we keep very high stock levels.

The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations 64th Edition
(for Air) became mandatory on 1st January 2023. The 41/22 Amendment of the IMDG Code (Sea) has a one-year transition period until 31st December 2023.

The manuals cover all the obligations for those involved in the transport of dangerous goods, including training, packaging, classification and the application of labels and marks. Consignors reference the regulations when populating Dangerous Goods Notes. This can be time-consuming and taxing, particularly when calculating thresholds for mixed or complex shipments. Labeline has a couple of helpful resources to make these tasks much easier…

For many companies who take advantage of the Limited Quantity (LQ), Excepted Quantity (EQ) and Small Load derogations, Labeline’s Guide to the Exemptions from the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road has become an essential tool.

Labeline’s DGOffice software simplifies the classification process and makes the calculations to enable users to quickly produce dangerous goods documentation that always complies with current regulations. As it is updated stealthily, and in a timely manner, there is no need to download updates when the regulations change - it is all done automatically.

Free trial

Labeline offers a free 14-day trial of DGOffice, without obligation. The trial includes all the primary transport modes and sub-modules such as “Own Articles” which enables users to
pre-populate data using internal product codes, and the “Address Label” which adds consignor and consignee details as well as the appropriate UN numbers.
