These include formal ADR training certification for drivers, as well as ADR Awareness for vehicle planners, depot FLT operators and small- loads/van drivers and associated personnel that may interface with dangerous goods. This includes understanding Kemmler classification, freight presentation/packaging, derogations, packing groups and exemptions. And most critically, the staff training must be documented. In order to ensure staff become confident in handling Dangerous Goods, following planning, I ensured I was present for the initial loads, handling the trunk-to-radial transhipment, reporting back to Gerry Gillespie to ensure no issues were raised and confidence established with depot and driving staff and management. This article [though by no means comprehensive] details some of the critical aspects that must be considered and documented when a logistics operator augments their services to encompass Dangerous Goods under ADR.
