Truck and Track Summer 2020 www.truckandtrack.com 6 BUSINESS NEWS ■■ Videos, infographics and further background information shed light on the important role tyres play in reducing CO 2 emissions ■■ CO 2 reduction and climate protection not only a topic for truck manufacturers but for the whole transport industry, including fleet operations and tyre replacement businesses ■■ Tyres have major influence on CO 2 emissions and impact on up to 40%of fleet operating costs Continental, technology company and manufacturer of premium tyres, have launched a new microsite highlighting useful information about the latest CO 2 emissions regulation for heavy goods vehicles and the simulation tool for trucks VECTO (Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool). In line with the Paris Agreement to combat climate change, the first carbon dioxide emissions regulations for new heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) were introduced by the European Commission in 2019 (EU Regulation 2019/1242). These new regulations will mean cutting average CO 2 emissions from new HDVs by 15% by 2025 and 30% by 2030 compared to figures from July 2019 to June 2020. This regulation currently applies to 4x2 and 6x2 trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 16 metric tonnes, while a future extensionof the regulation is currently being considered by the European Commission. To ensure these ambitious reduction targets aremet, the Commission launched the VECTO simulation tool. Given that tyres significantly influence fuel consumption and therefore the CO 2 emissions generated by a vehicle, Continental have launched a new microsite to provide fleet managers with comprehensive information about the new regulation and its implications for their trucks. The website can be found here: https://www.continental-tyres. co.uk/truck/knowhow/co2-regulations-vecto Included on the site are: Embedded videos, including a video explaining how the VECTO simulation tool works and what exactly is calculated for the HDVs (also available on YouTube) as well as a video highlighting why industry and society need to act now. Information about the business effects for fleet operators, focusing on fuel efficiency and greater transparency with regard to the purchase of a truck. A comprehensive infographic about the new regulation, with facts and figures showing how the VECTO tool performs its calculations, Continental explains VECTO & the latest CO 2 emissions regulations for fleet operators with newmicrosite Constantin Batsch, Head of Truck Tires Replacement at Continental’s business region Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) The microsite contains comprehensive information about the new CO 2 emissions regulation, including a long infographic showing what the simulation tool VECTO is ...
