www.truckandtrack.com Spring 2021 Truck and Track 71 PORTS New Vessel - Cote D’Opale At 214m long and 27.8m wide, the Cote D’Opale will be one of the largest ro/ro ships on the Channel. With a capacity of 3100 lane metres, it will be a spacious and modern way to cross to and from Calais. The Cote D’Opale will be replacing the Calais Seaways later this year and its new advanced technology supports DFDS in lowering carbon dioxide emissions and will offer our drivers a smoother crossing with its active stabilisation. The vessel will offer relaxing sea views in its extensive lounge space, quality dining in the Seven Seas Restaurant and Lighthouse Café, a Premium Lounge for that extra level of relaxation, and a shopping complex that will be the largest Duty-Free space on the Channel. For our valued freight drivers, the Road Kings Lounge will provide standard seating for 212 drivers and 28 reclining seats in the relaxation lounge along with 2 couchettes, with extensive toilets and shower facilities and more space to relax and refresh. And, as with all of our Channel vessels, the Cote D’Opale will offer our freight drivers a free meal with every crossing, as well as access to road tax and HGV toll machines onboard. We are very excited to see the Cote D’Opale in service and we are sure our customers will be very happy with the newest addition to our fleet. Rosslare Dunkerque Route On 2nd January, we launched the Rosslare Dunkerque route, offering a direct and paperless route between EU countries. Providing six crossings per week, each of the vessels can carry 125 lorries and provides a single (Covid-19 safe) cabin for each driver. The route has already proved to be very popular, with a high demand and good utilisation. By removing the customs formalities, the route saves our customers both time and costs. And drivers will be able to arrive in Rosslare or Dunkerque fully rested, able to start driving immediately and allowing themto reachmany destinations within their legal driving limit. NEWDFDS Ferries and Terminals app During April 2021, we were pleased to release our NEW DFDS Ferries and Terminals app, the new app offers information and notifications for our valued customers. Our new App will enable you to find your bookings, get directions to the ports, receive up to date departure times, port situations and be first to know about the special promotions we will be offering our freight customers. If you show your app in the onboard shop, you will benefit from a 15% discount on some of the items available in the shop. Priority/Fast lane For a small charge, DFDS are pleased to offer our customers the facility to depart on a vessel that would otherwise be full. Priority lane This additional service is available at check-in, in all three Channel ports (Calais, Dover and Dunkerque). During busy periods, a limited amount of vessel space will be available to freight customers who are willing to pay an additional fee to depart on a vessel that would otherwise be full, thus reducing waiting times. This is available on a first come first served basis. Fast lane This provides our customers with an option to avoid the long queues approaching the Port of Dunkerque, to gain faster access to the check-in booths and to be checked in for the next available departure.
