Truck and Track Autumn 2021
www.truckandtrack.com Autumn 2021 Truck and Track 3 FOREWORD by Barbara Ryan, Publishing Director, Truck and Track I’mwriting this introduction against a backcloth of fuel shortages and driver shortages but, as you’ll see, there’s no shortage of interesting news, case studies, product information and order announcements within this Autumn issue. Recent research by Talent in Logistics has established that, whilst some employers have been offering hefty cash incentives to retain and attract drivers, it seems that drivers hadn’t actually been asked for their views – until now. Apparently, according to a survey carried out in July 2021, both HGV and LGV drivers would be interested in receiving a range of benefits from their employers. Benefits mentioned included income protection insurance, critical illness cover, additional holiday for years of service, private healthcare and dental care. One interesting statistic that came out of the survey is that 73% of drivers would welcome higher pension contributions from their employers, indicating that drivers are seeking long term benefits rather than immediate pay offs. News from pallet networks once again highlights the continuing growth and increasing success in this vital sector. Paul Sanders, Chairman of the Association of Pallet Networks (APN) explains that with no sign of a realistic short-term solution to the problems facing transport companies, APN networks can help their members operate their own resources more efficiently and effectively. As trade exhibitions begin to take place once again face to face, we have included a preview of this year’s Multimodal exhibition. The free-to-attend exhibition and seminar show will include a match-making service to connect VIP decision makers with exhibitors, as well as two networking events, the Multimodal Awards on 19th October and the Multimodal Mixer on 20th October. If you’re attending the exhibition, I’d love to welcome you to the Truck and Track stand (no. 9054). You’ll also see that this issue includes several Q&A interviews with leading names across different industry sectors. If you’d like to participate in such an interview, within a future issue of Truck and Track, please contact me.
