www.truckandtrack.com Summer 2025 Truck and Track 35 AI SYSTEMS How does it work? Every vehicle is a trove of data - every key system has a host of sensors feeding information to the CAN, it just needs to be captured and fed back to operators in a way that they can use and understand. Doing the analysis would take a huge amount of effort for a human because they would need to be able to trace a gradual temperature rise in one component to a future failure in another - like a doctor picking up on a change in their patient - but that is where the algorithms come in. They are always keeping an eye out for you, so you don’t have to. The fleet management system uses an OBD-connected device (InGenious) to access the vehicle’s systems and a cloud-based software platform (InRoute) that works on the data and tells you when things are going wrong, but they are also working with some OEMs to provide the analytics in cab as well. The platform is monitoring billions of data points every day worldwide. The proprietary algorithm then uses physics-based AI modelling to produce a digital twin of each vehicle and then combines that with running data to provide an accurate picture of its health in real time. Alerts are raised to the depot whenever there is cause for concern, along with recommendations on how to address the problem. The AI platform grades problems in three levels of severity: critical,
