www.truckandtrack.com Spring 2026 Truck and Track 13 BUSINESS NEWS New Volvo FMX from Mac’s Truck Rental gives X‑Hire Platforms the X‑factor Powered access and plant equipment supplier X-Hire Platforms has taken delivery of a new 32-tonne Volvo FMX 8x2 beavertail on a long-term hire agreement from Mac’s Truck Rental, continuing a trusted and long-standing relationship between the two businesses. The latest truck marks the first time X-Hire Platforms has opted for a Volvo FMX chassis, replacing an older rigid from another manufacturer supplied by Mac’s Truck Rental, mounted with an identical spec low-profile access beavertail body. X-Hire Platforms operates a 13-strong commercial vehicle fleet, which includes 10 currently provided by Mac’s on long-term hire. Manny Butunu, Transport and Logistics Manager for X-Hire Platforms, says: “We’ve worked with the team at Mac’s Truck Rental for many years, and in that time they’ve developed an excellent understanding of our business. When it came to this latest truck, they helped us with the decision to switch manufacturer, ensuring we got the right spec to meet our needs. “Mac’s advised us on the best chassis choice for payload capacity, which was also tough enough to deliver to a wide variety of customer sites. The result was the Volvo FMX, which will provide us with improved reliability and excellent durability.” Designed for on/off-road environments, the FMX includes a wealth of driver comfort options in the cab, is 3-Star Direct Vision Standard compliant for use in London and is equipped with a rear lifting and steering axle, providing enhanced manoeuvrability in tight construction sites or urban locations. The rear lift axle also delivers improved fuel efficiency and reduced tyre wear when the truck is running empty or with a light load. As with previous builds, the latest beavertail features deck lashing rings, a hardwood floor, alongside double flip mesh ramps with a central trapdoor – offering a low loading angle for the wide variety of plant X-Hire Platforms supplies. The vehicle has also been fitted with a full edge protection system for improved safety, plus front and rear strobes and a beacon bar to increase visibility. Mac’s Truck Rental’s long-term hire package provides X-Hire Platforms with a straightforward way to manage its fleet, with all servicing, inspections, maintenance, emergency roadside assistance, and road fund licensing included. The new rigid will be on the road up to six days per week, delivering a range of powered access and plant equipment, including booms, scissor lifts, forklifts and excavators, nationwide to X-Hire Platforms customers from the company’s strategically located depots in the North and South East.
