www.truckandtrack.com Spring 2026 Truck and Track 3 FOREWORD by Barbara Ryan, Publishing Director, Truck and Track Welcome to the Spring Edition of Truck and Track. Looking back to the Winter edition I wrote that 2026 would bring some challenges to our industry. Little did I realise that the challenge would take the form of a fuel crisis! Spiralling prices and shortages in supplies. Paul Sanders the Chairman of the Association of Pallet Networks covers this issue on page 38. Paul gives some realistic suggestions and urges the Government to take immediate action to support our industry. This is clearly a time when we need to stand united and make sure that worthwhile solutions are implemented in a timely manner! UPN will be celebrating their 25th year anniversary in 2026 (pages 40-43). Now having grown with over 100 dedicated members supporting nationwide and European coverage. UPN were the first pallet network to achieve carbon neutral delivery and have achieved steady growth by developing a range of smart solutions to remain ahead of the competition. We’re fast approaching the show season, and this commences with the Commercial Vehicle Show 21st-23rd April at the NEC Birmingham (page 16-17). This time it combines The Bus and Coach Expo which also benefits supporting industries that are common to both transport type of operations. The theme of the show is “Fuelling change-the route to decarbonising road transport”. The show is packed with the latest hardware and innovations and in the current climate is an important event that shouldn’t be missed. Other dates for your diary: June 30th-July 2nd Multimodal 2026 at the NEC and the Road Transport Expo (RTX) at NAEC Stoneleigh. These shows will be covered in the Summer Edition of Truck and Track. Truck and Track Spring 2026 www.truckandtrack.com 4 BUSINESS NEWS Guy Martin revisits Morris Lubricants’ factory for new video series UK manufacturer Morris Lubricants has reunited with brand ambassador Guy Martin – the popular lorry mechanic, motorbike racer, tractor lover, TV presenter, and engineering enthusiast – for a new video series covering the manufacture, filling, and distribution of its high-quality range of oils and lubricants. The new videos follow the previous 2022 series about how oil is made, which proved a stunning success, with an immense number of views across the Morris Lubricants’ social media platforms. Designed to provide important information before choosing a lubricant brand, the videos show Guy and Morris Lubricants’ Technology Manager, Adrian Hill, inspect the new £6 million operational developments that have been made at Morris Lubricants’ factory and facilities in Shrewsbury. This video series also provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at how Morris Lubricants manufactures and distributes its high-quality products around the world. These episodes include details of a new stainless-steel tank farm to meet the increased demand for various product formulations; an updated pigging system that minimises waste between production runs; and a new bulk blending tank with ultrasonic blending capabilities for faster, more flexible and sustainable bulk manufacture of oils and lubricants. Adrian then shows Guy, Morris Lubricants’ new Worldwide Distribution Centre, where they look at how the company distributes its high-quality oils, lubricants, and greases throughout the UK and to over 100 countries across the globe. Guy comments: “It was so impressive to see everything Morris Lubricants have done since I was last at the factory. They’ve clearly spent money in all the right places, and what shines through is how the aim is always to produce the best, get it done right, and never cut corners. It’s great to see a British manufacturer investing like this.” Adrian adds: “It was brilliant to invite Guy back to show him the boost we’ve had in our manufacturing, production, storage, and logistics capabilities. Once again, his enthusiasm was infectious. The new video series makes a perfect resource and insight for professional mechanics, service engineers, maintenance technicians as well as keen end users, avid DIYers, occasional hobbyists plus anyone else interested in our high-quality oils, lubricants and greases.” TRUCK & TRAILER SOLUTIONS WELCOME TOALLPORTS GROUP allportsgroup.co.uk

Truck and Track Spring 2026 www.truckandtrack.com 6 BUSINESS NEWS MAN Truck & Bus SE plans to invest around €300 million in the expansion and further development of its European service network by 2030. This is the largest investment of its kind in MAN’s history. The company intends to use this investment to create new bases in Europe, modernize existing locations, optimize regional coverage, further improve service quality, and continue to work intensively on making the network fit for electric mobility. At the beginning of the year, the company announced its intention to reduce costs with its “MAN2030+” program in order to be able to make significant investments in growth and innovation. MAN already has an exceptionally strong network of service and sales locations. There are around 1,200 MAN-owned and partner companies across Europe, with a total of approximately 7,000 employees working in MAN companies. MAN customers across Europe can rely on round-the-clock support, every day of the week. More than 2,000 MAN service centers and cooperation partners provide seamless support via the MAN Mobile24 breakdown and mobility service. In Germany, for example, MAN already has the largest manufacturer-owned service network with more than 340 of its own and partner service locations. “A strong brand needs a strong service network. We have that – and we are now making it even stronger. Alongside our sales team, our workshops are our public face for our customers. Our strong network is a competitive advantage. We want to expand it further. That is why we are investing heavily here over the next few years, because the combination of product, service, and good quality will become even more important in the coming years, especially against the backdrop of new competitors. We want to set ourselves apart even more clearly and establish ourselves as a sustainable player,” says Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN. “The commercial vehicle business is significantly more complex and service-intensive than the passenger car business. The daily availability of vehicles is essential for our customers’ businesses. To be successful, we need to be very close to our customers and offer top-notch service,” Baumann continues. Shorter distances In the future, for example, the distances customers have to travel to the workshops will be even shorter. The goal is for almost 80 percent of customers to have a travel time of less than 30 minutes to the next MAN service location. The most important markets in which this goal is to be achieved as a priority and before 2030 include Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Turkey, among others. In certain regions with particularly high logistics requirements, the goal is to be achieved by creating new bases, among other measures. “We are opening an average of seven new branches per year in these countries,” said Baumann. MAN already has 68 service and sales locations in the UK, with around 900 employees in total and 550 in our own branches. A service investment of around 40 million euros is planned for the UK MAN Network by 2030, and several additional UK locations are to be opened by 2031. Fit for sustainable mobility MAN is also working flat out at all levels to make its sales and service locations fit for sustainable mobility. By 2026, two out of three bases are to be prepared for e-mobility. Around one third of the planned investments totaling around 300 million euros will therefore be channeled into electromobility and digitalization. This comprises a bundle of measures: ■ Sales and service staff in Europe are receiving training - around 8,000 employees, from sales representatives to highvoltage mechanics, are undergoing further intensive training on the subject of e-mobility. In Germany, for example, the budget for further training in the field of e-mobility is being doubled as part of the investment program. MAN not only has a highly qualified team, but is also a very good employer. MAN has been named Top Employer 2025 in three European markets – the UK, Spain, and France. ■ Several MAN-owned battery repair centers are already in operation across Europe, including in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Austria, and Italy. Austria acts as a hub for the neighboring countries of Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. Further countries will be connected within the next few months. Through partners, this also already applies to Sweden and will soon apply to the Netherlands. By 2030, the plan is to further expand the network of battery repair centers and to tap into all European markets. ■ As part of the cooperation with energy company E.ON, a large number of MAN service branches will be equipped with publicly accessible charging points for electric trucks. In total, the cooperation comprises up to 400 charging points at up to 170 locations in Europe, including up to 125 locations in Germany alone. The German locations in BerlinWildau, Fürstenwalde, and Karlsfeld, the Austrian location in Eugendorf, and Čestlice in Czechia are already live. Further stations will be opened in various markets later this year. ■ The further expansion of photovoltaic systems at MAN branches, together with the widespread installation of LED lighting and state-of-the-art heating systems, is an important step toward sustainability. ■ The digitization of workshop processes is being consistently driven forward. Service advisors and technicians have already been equipped with iPads to handle service orders, documentation, and communication digitally. In addition, app solutions and artificial intelligence are to support the end-to-end digitization of workshop visits and ensure more efficient processes, greater transparency, and improved service quality for customers. Truck and Track Spring 2026 www.truckandtrack.com 8 BUSINESS NEWS Associated British Ports (ABP) is delighted to celebrate its tenyear support of the ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon, 10k and Family Fun Run with organisers Tape2Tape. The festival of mass participation running events, which began in 2016, came about after an idea from ABP employee Paul Durrant, Lead Estate Manager, and keen runner. And so began an event billed as having one of the best courses in the country, with its coastal location and views over the Humber Estuary. With events over a range of distances the ABP Humber Coastal has attracted thousands of runners from far and wide, welcoming those new to running to those participating in the fun run to experienced marathoners and from children to veterans. Andrew Dawes, Regional Director for the Humber ports said: “Reaching our tenth year as sponsor of the ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon festival is something we’re incredibly proud of. This event brings so much joy to everyone involved—from the runners and volunteers to the communities and neighbours who come out to support it each year. It has become a true celebration of our coastline and the people who make this region such a special place. Being part of something that inspires wellbeing, brings communities together, and continues to grow year after year is a real honour for Associated British Ports.” Neil and Nicola Pattison from Tape2Tape said: “Reaching the tenth anniversary of the ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon and 10k is incredibly special for us. This event has grown far beyond a race, it has become a celebration of our coastline, our people and the amazing community spirit that makes this region so special. Every year we’re moved by the community support, the volunteers who give their time so generously and the runners of all abilities who come together with such joy and determination. Our partnership with ABP has been at the heart of this journey. Their belief in the event and in the power of community, has allowed it to flourish into something we are all truly proud of. Together, we’ve watched thousands of unforgettable moments unfold along our beautiful seafront. This tenth year belongs to everyone who has played a part in making the event what it is today a shining example of what can happen when a community comes together.” Paul Durrant, Lead Estate Manager said: “When I first floated the idea of a race back in 2016, I never imagined it would grow into what it is today. Seeing the ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon festival reach its tenth anniversary is incredibly special. As both a runner and part of the ABP team, it’s a real privilege to take part again this year and to witness how the event continues to bring people together, celebrate our coastline, and inspire so many to get involved.” If a running challenge this year isn’t possible for you then you can still get involved with supporting the event as a volunteer Race Maker. The ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon 10k and Family Fun Run is supported by 300 volunteers. There is a role to suit everyone - from cheering runners on the course as a marshal, to handing out water or the iconic donuts at the end of the race; you can even volunteer as a photographer. Community groups and charities looking to volunteer as a group are welcome too. The event complements ABP’s support of other races around the UK including marathons in Southampton, Newport, Cardiff, and Ipswich. 10 years strong: ABP celebrates community running festival sponsorship 2026 celebrates the 10th anniversary of Associated British Ports supporting the Humber Coastal Half Marathon and 10k and fun run Nine minibus taxi associations, collectively representing almost 500 vehicles across Cape Town, South Africa, have introduced a Safe Minibus Taxi Charter, backed by 95 per cent of more than 1,100 passengers surveyed locally. The launch follows the completion of the latest phase of a project led by international development organisation Transaid, with the strong results expected to inform future scaling of the initiative. Available in both English and Afrikaans, the development of the Safe Minibus Taxi Charter has been complemented by sensitisation training for 124 drivers, sliding door operators and rank coordinators. This focused on the topics of sexual and gender-based violence, aiming to improve the personal safety and security of women travelling in low-income communities. From those trained, 33 participants were chosen to become ‘Champions’, with the responsibility to act as principal points of contact and deliver ongoing training for peers. The project was delivered in partnership with the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Women’s Desk, Cape Crisis, and Sonke Gender Justice, with funding from the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). Dennis Simuyuni, Project Manager for Transaid, says: “This work shows how powerful change can be when the transport sector and community partners work together. The commitment shown by drivers, operators and taxi associations gives us real confidence that safer, more inclusive travel for women is within reach.” Sharon Petrus, Chairperson of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Women’s Desk for the Northern Region, says: “This is a beautiful project for women. The Transaid project has given us a real chance to move forward and stand on our own in the taxi industry. “I want to thank everyone who has made this project possible. We can already see the difference - women passengers and drivers feel safer because of this important work. We really want this project to continue and grow. There are still many challenges in the taxi industry, and we need to keep working together to tackle them.” This project builds upon a three-year study completed by Transaid between 2019 and 2022, in collaboration with Durham University, which identified concerns around personal safety as a key challenge faced by women users of public transport in the Western Cape Province. Established in 2008, the SANTACO Women’s Desk aims to empower women within the taxi industry by fostering economic opportunities and improving safety in the aim of greater gender equality. Sonke Gender Justice is a women’s rights organisation operating across South Africa. It aims to address genderbased violence by engaging men and boys, policy advocacy, community education and mobilisation, and societal norms. December alone saw 224,700 TEU handled at the terminal, 14% more than the same month last year and the second-highest month on record, surpassed only by March 2025’s record 233,000 TEU. The performance reinforces the terminal’s position as one of Europe’s leading deep‑sea container hubs. The record was achieved in a year marked by economic uncertainty and operational volatility across global shipping networks, including congestion at container terminals and an unprecedented level of industrial action in parts of the supply chain. Edi Cioran, CEO of DP World Antwerp Gateway, said: “Last year was a remarkable year for the terminal. Achieving our highestever throughput is a testament to the dedication of our people, the trust of our customers and the strength of our long-term investment strategy. This record underscores our commitment to building a resilient, intelligent and sustainable terminal that supports the needs of European and global trade. “October 2025 marked two decades of Antwerp Gateway, a period defined by innovation, partnership and continuous growth. The record-breaking performance achieved in 2025 sets a strong foundation for the terminal’s next chapter,” Cioran added. DP World Antwerp Gateway operates around the clock, 24/7, managing cargo flows for global and regional supply chains on a massive scale. Each shift is supported by approximately 120 dock workers, excluding support teams. Truck and Track Spring 2026 www.truckandtrack.com 12 BUSINESS NEWS The widespread use of popular addressing system what3words by two-person delivery specialist AIT Home Delivery and its customers is reaping dividends for the company on popular consumer review website TrustPilot. Customers are reporting excellent final-mile experiences with AIT - a wholly owned subsidiary of AIT Worldwide Logistics - with timely deliveries, verbal updates giving accurate ETAs, and the ability to provide a what3words address among the plus points regularly highlighted within their reviews. Of the 217,000 reviews on Trustpilot awarding an overall rating of 4.6 stars, 84 per cent of customers awarded five stars with another five per cent awarding four stars. There are two main ingredients to the perfect delivery: communication and precision. Service and staff communication were regularly among the top positive mentions within the reviews. Additionally, people said that the drivers found exact locations for deliveries, even to remote or complex places, with what3words. AIT Home Delivery adopted the use of what3words’ global addressing system more than two years ago as part of its ongoing quest to improve the customer’s final mile delivery experience. As a result, customers are now able to add a what3words address on the tracking link page, or share it with the retailer they’re shopping with to pass on to AIT. It means customers can specify the exact entrance of their building or another convenient delivery location. This can be especially handy for newbuilds that don’t appear on maps yet, rural homes, large sites or buildings and complexes with multiple entrances. what3words provides an easy way to talk about precise locations. It has divided the world into a grid of 3 metre squares, and assigned each one a unique combination of three random words: a what3words address. For example, ///daisy.storm. guard pinpoints the exact front entrance of the AIT Home Delivery HQ office in Northampton. Kirsty Railton Senior Customer Experience Director Home Delivery Global said: “what3words’ groundbreaking system is a perfect fit for our own business as we seek to deliver a solid and reliable service, bringing immediacy to the customer - ensuring their purchases are in situ and ready for immediate use. “The app has transformed the working day for our delivery teams – helping them to get to where they need to be even in the most secluded of locations. The end result is a seamless navigation experience straight to customers’ doors, with less time and fuel wasted driving round searching for a hard-to-find property.” Among the AIT Home Delivery customers who recently reviewed the business was S Sumerland who said: “Brilliant service, really good to use what3words to get exact access to property rather than just a postcode, great on tracking information and delivery times, with the added phone call 30 minutes before. All done and sorted in no time. Thank you.” David Horseman said: “First experience with AIT – and an excellent one – they have an accurate messaging system and tracking system – for remote or complex delivery addresses you can enter your what3words code! 2 hour time slot received evening before delivery and 2 friendly guys delivered on time – great service!” Dee added: “Able to track delivery van on its stops, so knew when delivery was going to take place. I would recommend using what3words, as the driver had no difficulty in finding the address, despite being a new-build.” Jennifer Christie, Partnerships Director at what3words, said: “Working with AIT it’s clear they are dedicated to ensuring the best possible experience for their customers, so it’s brilliant to hear this reflected in customer feedback with the use of what3words being called out as a key ingredient in those timely and accurate deliveries.” Other premium delivery options highlighted by happy customers in their online reviews included next and nominated day delivery and removal of packaging. what3words helps ait home delivery achieve service excellence for customers TRUCK & TRAILER SOLUTIONS WELCOME TOALLPORTS GROUP allportsgroup.co.uk

The latest truck marks the first time X-Hire Platforms has opted for a Volvo FMX chassis, replacing an older rigid from another manufacturer supplied by Mac’s Truck Rental, mounted with an identical spec low-profile access beavertail body. X-Hire Platforms operates a 13-strong commercial vehicle fleet, which includes 10 currently provided by Mac’s on long-term hire. Manny Butunu, Transport and Logistics Manager for X-Hire Platforms, says: “We’ve worked with the team at Mac’s Truck Rental for many years, and in that time they’ve developed an excellent understanding of our business. When it came to this latest truck, they helped us with the decision to switch manufacturer, ensuring we got the right spec to meet our needs. “Mac’s advised us on the best chassis choice for payload capacity, which was also tough enough to deliver to a wide variety of customer sites. The result was the Volvo FMX, which will provide us with improved reliability and excellent durability.” Designed for on/off-road environments, the FMX includes a wealth of driver comfort options in the cab, is 3-Star Direct Vision Standard compliant for use in London and is equipped with a rear lifting and steering axle, providing enhanced manoeuvrability in tight construction sites or urban locations. www.truckandtrack.com Spring 2026 Truck and Track 15 WST Commercials strengthens wheel alignment capability with Josam system from AES UK WST Commercials has strengthened its wheel alignment offering after investing in a Josam Laser AM supplied by AES UK, enabling the business to deliver more accurate tracking services and unlock a new revenue stream. The independent commercial vehicle specialist purchased the system approximately two years ago to address ongoing challenges with its previous alignment equipment which had led to customer complaints around vehicle pull and tracking accuracy. WST also says that with limited training on the older system, technicians were often left to self-diagnose issues, impacting confidence and pricing consistency. According to Jamie Cotterill, Director at WST Commercials, the decision to switch to AES UK was driven by a desire to invest in a professional wheel alignment system and provide a higher standard of service. “We were seeing customers come back saying vehicles weren’t tracking correctly or were still pulling,” he explains. “With the Josam system, we know the results are accurate and we can confidently stand behind the work.” Jamie also highlights the importance of training and aftersales support provided by AES UK. “The training was very good, and the ongoing support has been excellent. Tom Coad from AES is always happy to help and the follow-up check after the initial training was really useful to make sure we were using the system correctly.” Since installation, WST Commercials has carried out around 200 wheel alignments using the Josam Laser AM system. The equipment is used across a broad mix of commercial vehicles and is equally effective on tractor units, HGV trailers and light commercial vehicles, allowing the workshop to maximise utilisation of the system. The business has also benefitted from the addition of an AES UK air hammer, which has significantly improved workshop efficiency. “It’s a great tool not just for tracking, but for freeing seized ball joints when replacing drag link ends or track rod ends,” adds Jamie. “It’s saved us hours of labour and avoided having to replace complete bars.” From a commercial perspective, the Josam Laser AM aligner investment delivered a rapid return. “The system paid for itself within 12 months,” Jamie Cotterill confirms. “It’s given us another revenue stream and improved the overall service we offer.” Customers have seen tangible benefits too, with tyre longevity being the most commonly reported improvement since the introduction of the Josam system, alongside improved vehicle handling and reduced downtime. AES UK is the UK distributor of Josam wheel alignment equipment, supplying professional wheel alignment systems designed for precise measurement and adjustment of axles on commercial vehicles. Josam systems are engineered to improve tracking accuracy, reduce tyre wear, enhance fuel efficiency and support faster turnaround times, while AES UK provides full training, installation and technical support to ensure workshops gain maximum value from their investment. www.a-e-s-uk.co.uk WHEEL ALIGNMENT
