Truck and Track Spring 2025 www.truckandtrack.com 70 DANGEROUS GOODS However, whilst many of the rules are understandably prescriptive - such as those specifying the adhesive properties, and a label’s resistance to abrasion and UV light - there is scope for small variations to be acceptable and not become a reason to reject a shipment. Images of specimen labels are shown in the dangerous goods regulations for each form of transport. There are minor differences in these across the modes and allowances are made to accommodate these “…minor variations that do not affect the obvious meaning of a label, are also acceptable.” Despite this, we do occasionally hear of shipments being unnecessarily snagged by over-eager acceptance staff. This caveat also applies to documentation. For example, misinterpretation of recent updates to the text and layout of example forms in the IATA DGR led to a guidance document being issued to remind forwarders, regulators and acceptance personnel that: “Minor discrepancies, …. are not considered as errors if they do not compromise safety and should not be considered a reason for rejecting a consignment.” The IATA document and other useful references can be found on the Labeline website. Come and see us… Every year, Labeline sponsors and exhibits at events which are in some way connected to the transport of dangerous goods. We have found this to be a great way to see our existing customers, meet new potential customers and support the industry. Labeline has supported the British Association of Dangerous Goods Professionals (BADGP) since its inception and, once again, we exhibited at their AGM in March – it was a full house! Other major events that Labeline will be exhibiting at in 2025: 5-7 May COSTHA Annual Forum and Expo (Atlanta, Georgia) Organised by The Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles, Inc. (COSTHA), the forum gives us the opportunity to have face to face meetings with our global customers and industry colleagues. COSTHA is a dynamic and responsive industry association devoted to the safe and efficient transportation of dangerous goods. 21-22 May ChemUK (NEC) ChemUK gets bigger each year and the event draws visitors and exhibitors from all areas of the chemical industry. Labeline’s Stand (E112) is in the heart of the Supply Chain Zone. 17-19 June Multimodal (NEC) Multimodal is the logistics industry’s annual exhibition and conference.
