Truck and Track Spring 2025 www.truckandtrack.com 26 AI SYSTEMS needs to be captured and fed back to operators in a way that they can use and understand. Doing the analysis would take a huge amount of effort for a human because they would need to be able to trace a gradual temperature rise in one component to a future failure in another - like a doctor picking up on a change in their patient - but that is where the algorithms come in. They are always keeping an eye out for you, so you don’t have to. The platform is monitoring billions of data points every day worldwide. The proprietary algorithm then uses physicsbased AI modelling to produce a digital twin of each vehicle and then combines that with running data to provide an accurate picture of its health in real time. Alerts are raised to the depot whenever there is cause for concern, along with recommendations on how to address the problem. The AI platform grades problems in three levels of severity: critical, major, and minor, to aid decision making. Depending on the severity of the problem, the vehicle could be diverted to a safe location along its route to avoid breakdown (and costly recovery), or scheduled for related maintenance activities on its return to the depot. The information gathered also enables the operator to make substantial savings in operating costs by improving fuel
