www.truckandtrack.com Spring 2025 Truck and Track 25 AI SYSTEMS AI is changing the world - about that there’s no question, but how can it impact the haulage industry? Besides, what does AI actually mean, and what can it do? If you ask most people what AI is they will point to large language models like ChatGPT or Gemini. The reality is AI is already firmly embedded in the road haulage industry, be it through driver behaviour monitoring, geolocation and smart route mapping, or smart load stacking software. However, very few systems have come close to predicting when a vehicle is going to fail in real time… until now. The Intangles’ predictive AI system is your fleet manager’s friend - the AI is constantly monitoring the vehicles in the background so the workshops and drivers don’t have to use their intuition to tell you when things are going wrong. The platform alerts operators when things are changing that need to be looked into - i.e. when the system picks up on vehicle issues that are going to lead to a fault code being triggered or a warning light appearing on the dashboard. This means fleet owners can take action to remedy faults before they cause trouble, and means you can avoid expensive breakdowns. How does it work? The system uses an OBD-connected device (InGenious) to access the vehicle’s systems and a cloud-based software platform (InRoute) that works on the data and tells you when things are going wrong. Every vehicle is a trove of data - every key system has a host of sensors feeding information to the CAN, it just
