Truck and Track Autumn 2023 www.truckandtrack.com 76 SAFETY & SECURITY It’s reported that, since the introduction of the Direct Vision standard in 2019, fatal collisions involving HGVs and vulnerable road users where vision was a contributory factor have fallen by 50%. Crucially, Transport for London (TFL) will be introducing the Progressive Safe System (PSS) in October 2024 to improve further road safety. According to TFL, it is estimated that the new PSS will be applied to approximately 165,000 vehicles which is 90% of the existing fleet operating in London. It is expected that the main benefits of PSS will come from reduced road fatalities and serious injuries, plus increased levels of walking and cycling as a result of people feeling safer on the roads. As the UK’s leading supplier of vehicle CCTV systems, Vision UK is committed to embracing the new London standard which includes the Moving Off Information System (MOIS). Providing increased safety for drivers and pedestrians, MOIS enables drivers to detect pedestrians/cyclists directly in front of vehicles. Danny Warren, Vision UK’s Head of Sales and Customer Relations, welcomes the implementation of PSS. He says, “We recently developed our new pedestrian detection camera which is so effective that it eliminates the need for side sensor kits on HGVs. Our extensive experience and expertise mean that we shall continue to introduce new safety products which will be securely tested to ensure compliance with all necessary requirements.” www.vision-uk.co.uk Vision UK launches range of pedestrian detection cameras
