 | Brit European has renewed its contract to distribute finished JCB products from its production sites in Staffordshire to dealers and export ports within the UK. The five- plus two-year deal extends what has already been a 15-year relationship between the two companies. Fundamental to the renewal is the drive to reduce carbon emissions and increase value to the customer. Both companies have corporate targets to reduce carbon emissions significantly – by more than 25% – and improve efficiency over the next five years. Click for more details |
 | GB Railfreight (GBRf) has become one of the UK’s top intermodal freight operators since it began its association with the Port of Felixstowe 12 years ago, when it became the second rail company to run regular freight services from the Port. Its intermodal services have grown exponentially: in 2011 GBRf moved more than 100,000 containers in a calendar year for the first time. This trend continued in 2012. The intermodal market is forecast to experience phenomenal growth over the next 25 years, and railfreight is one of the few sectors to continue growing during challenging economic times.  | Volvo Trucks reports that orders for the new FH in the UK and Irish Republic have climbed above the 1,000 mark since its launch in September 2012, and early signs are that operators will be visiting the NEC in large numbers to inspect the new truck, described recently as a “technological game changer” and “an icon reborn”.  | The new Mercedes-Benz Atego with Euro VI is continuing its successful career as a bestseller in the 6.5t to 16t GVW short-radius distribution segment. Its position will now be strengthened thanks to an entirely new drive system and numerous innovations in the chassis and cab. A total of seven new Euro VI engine variants, which can be combined with a broad range of manual and automatic transmissions, enable the Atego to be precisely adapted to the specific profiles of short-radius distribution applications.  | Specialist chassis and exhaust converter Astra Vehicle Technologies Ltd have recently completed a series of dual steer conversions on DAF LF55 series vehicles and are also now working on Volvo and Iveco versions. The applications for UK dual controlled vehicles are relatively small in volume but regular each year and are generally limited to specialist line marking and road sweeper applications. However, in countries such as Australia dual controls are mandated both for road sweeping and side loading refuse collection. Click for more details |
